What do you think entails Faith in God
What do you think entails faith in God?
Life is full of choices; and in fact, our whole lives are made up of choices, most of which (although made by others) affect us throughout life. For instance, your parents probably made a conscious decision to forge a relationship, whose result you are. You sure weren't involved in this! What about you name? you accepted it, yet you were not in any wise involved or consulted of the same for as it were, you knew not anything!
On the other hand, we are who we are because of our own choices. In my case for example, when others burned the midnight oil in normal days, I'd choose to rest assured trusting in my 'high cramming power'. I would certainly fatten the calf on the day of market and flatter self with 'above average grades'. How foolish! I ended up struggling in my final year trying to consolidate in it a good portion of the curriculum.
Life brims with surprises, sometimes dealing us harsh blows without warning. Yet through it all runs an unbreakable thread - timeless principles we disregard at our peril, for their violation brings inevitable consequences. This one principle overlaying all your choices is called The Cause-and-Effect Principle. This is what the science ninjas refer to as Newton's Third Law of linear Motion-'Every action has an equal and opposite reaction'. As with all other principles, it works indiscriminately. A price must be paid; and it is for a truth very costly! Why not come along with me as we ruminate on this cardinal postulate.
Newton's Third Law of linear Motion-'Every action has an equal and opposite reaction'. - Is this not true? indeed it is! It is observed that a tennis ball thrown against a wall will bounce back with a magnitude similar to when it left the hand. Perhaps if I told you, that human beings walk backwards, so that due to the equal reaction force by the ground we are able to move forward it'd baffle you! But again, this is a fact. A simpler one; a trampoline would thrust you to a height proportional to the force you exert on it; such that a greater action force equals a greater reaction force, in terms of height reached, and the opposite is true. In real life, you do not expect to drink liquor and smell water! Is not the size of the bruise proportional to the force subjected on your flesh? It is important however, to understand that whether you appreciate this law or not (from a scientific standpoint), it will still affect all things that you will do or even not do! It is therefore crucial to take cognizance of it in order to carry out your activities with maximum efficiency.
The law of Cause-and-Effect. How much is this true in our lives with respect to our faith! According to my first form C.R.E class, faith was defined as a strong belief in something/someone. This is supposedly what you might call expectation. When it comes to matters religion, our faith is very important. What you believe in absolutely affects your life. The Bible describes it as "the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" (Hebrews 11:1). When God asks humans to believe, you must not think that you have to blindly believe Him. No! He says, "Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD" (Isaiah 1:18). But in coming to Him, you must also understand this, "my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts"(Isaiah 55:8-9). How great a humility!
God's infinite thoughts compared to ours renders us unreasonable! But in all this God wants us to know Him as a friend. Just as a child relies on a father, so are you to rely on Him. Just as the child knows that the father is not abstract, but knows his voice, the same way you can know God. You must choose to believe in the evidences that are present all around you, as the child believes that the father is loving when he lavishes them with good gifts. Don't just believe in God blindly, "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear" (1 Peter 3:15).
This, in few words, means that you must think. One of the most amazing organs in the human body is the mind. According to Gould, the most translated American female author, "Every organ of the body was made to be servant to the mind. The mind is the capital of the body". (1MCP 72.1). She further says, "It is a law of the human mind that by beholding we become changed. Man will rise no higher than his conceptions of truth, purity, and holiness. If the mind is never exalted above the level of humanity, if it is not uplifted by faith to contemplate infinite wisdom and love, the man will be constantly sinking lower and lower.(PP 91.2).
